Post Company is spearheading the design of the forthcoming five-story boutique hotel.
Uncommon Hospitality has announced that its latest property, the Longfellow Hotel, is set to open in Portland, Maine this summer. Brooklyn-based studio Post Company is overseeing the design of the five-story, ground-up structure in the historic West End.
“This is Post Company’s first hotel project in Maine, a state we’re incredibly fond of, personally spending much of my salad days Down East. We couldn’t be more excited to help bring the Longfellow to life and celebrate the pristine bounty and dynamism of this state,” says Post Company partner Jou-Yie Chou. “Our design for the Longfellow is intended to provide a convivial setting that invites guests and locals alike to relax, rejuvenate, and celebrate together amongst friends.”
The residentially inspired design will nod to the neighborhood’s historic Victorian and Italianate architecture, with interiors characterized by a pared-back minimalist sensibility and materials that channel the rugged natural splendor of Maine.
Salon décor will inform the design of the central lobby, which will feature limewashed walls, intricate mosaic tile floors, and a communal lounge outfitted with casual bespoke seating and an intimate bar handcrafted by local mill workers.
